Rome Restaurant Week 2012

Restaurant Week is on again in Rome.

It’s when you get to try a surprise 3 course meal (for lunch or dinner) at some of the city’s best restaurants for a set price of €25. Drinks are separate of course.

More than 80 restaurants across Rome participated with some Michelin star rated places too (add a lazy €10 to the menu for that!).

By the time I got to booking I wasn’t left with a huge amount of choice.

I would have like to have tried L’Arcangelo, the famed Metamorfosi or go back to the L’Olimpo Rooftop at Hotel Bernini Bristol.

In the end we settled for Tazio at the 5 star Boscolo Exedra hotel in Piazza della Repubblica – one of my favourite piazzas in all of Rome.

Not too shabby really!

My friend and I had to choose between a vegetarian, seafood or meat menu.

I chose the meat and my friend, the vegetarian. Here’s what we ate:

Compliments of the Chef:

Crema di patate con spuma di wasabi
Potato soup with wasabi foam

For €25 we got more than our money’s worth. But importantly, it was a really enjoyable (and delicious) dining experience in a stylish setting and with just the right balance of attentive but not invasive service.

It’s a great initiative to promote restaurants in the city and to give diners the opportunity to experience some places they may not have generally tried at an affordable rate.

I’m looking forward to next one – just need to get in a little earlier!

Restaurant Week is running until this Sunday and there is still some availability at some fantastic venues.
