Rome’s Secret Garden in Trastevere: the Botanical Gardens
There’s always something to do or see or experience in Rome. For when you’re looking to spend a morning or afternoon away from the crowds or the hustle and bustle of the city, head to the oasis that is, Rome’s Botanical Gardens.
You won’t believe you’re in the heart of Trastevere – it’s a really short walk from the bustling commercial part of the neighborhood. You’ll also be surprised at the size. My thoughts were, “how does this even fit into Trastevere?”. Run by the city’s premiere university, La Sapienza, the gardens are a green, open air museum. Boasting a bamboo trail, a greenhouse from the 1800s, Japanese garden, a rose garden and water fountain feature, it’s lush, relaxing and super pretty.
Nearby are the lovely historic palazzos – Villa Farnesina and Palazzo Corsini – also worth a visit for their art works and architectural beauty.
