Laudemio & Tordomatto: an EVO match made in heaven

I just want to say upfront that up until what seems like only a little while ago it was fine to refer to extra virgin olive oil as – extra virgin olive oil. But now – like most things – it has been abbreviated to an acronym: EVO. Because, let’s face it: who has time to pronounce three words anyway!

And now on the topic of EVO – meet Laudemio. Boasting 21 estates in Tuscany with over 21 extra virgin olive oils, the Laudemio brand and consortium is synonymous with quality and excellence. And so I jumped at the opportunity to attend their showcase dining event in Rome a few weeks back.

Held at Tordomatto in the Prati neighbourhood of Rome, I also said yes straight away because I’m a big fan of chef Adriano Baldassarre. I first tried his dishes at a Taste of Rome food festival 2-3 years ago. His crumbed and fried coda alla vaccinara (roman style oxtail) croquettes were the highlight of my day and I still remember them. I tasted them again at his stylish and contemporary restaurant at the end of 2016 and in 2017 he was awarded a Michelin Star. So again, I was very happy to be going back and sample his Laudemio EVO based degustation menu.

This event was a way for him to show off his expertise and also to present 4 oils under the Laudemio umbrella (one of which I got to take home!)

Here’s what we ate:

Cappuccino di Baccalà w/ Laudemio Frantoio di Santa Tea, Gonnelli 1585

Ajo and Ojo (spaghetti with garlic and oil in roman dialect) Rome – New Delhi – Rome inspired w/ Laudemio FrescobaldiTongue with potato purée, red onion and anchovy fillets w/ Laudemio Fattoria Le Sorgenti

Chocolate fondant with EVO gelato w/Laudemio Frescobaldi
