Arrivederci Roma 2018 (from Melbourne)

I can’t help but get nostalgic at this time of year. I’m sure I’m not alone. As the years pass and ‘another year older’ starts to set in, I feel this overwhelming sense of melancholy engulf me. Because somehow, some way, I sometimes wish I could make life stand still. Especially during the good moments, the happy ones, the ones where you want to pinch yourself. Christmas and the year’s end

15 Melbourne Dining Experiences

My first post for the year is not about Rome, but my home city, Melbourne. I had some outstanding dining experiences while I was in town – no surprises there, given it’s Australia’s culinary capital – and I wanted to share these 15 places to eat if you’re in town or headed there any time soon. From casual cafe style lunches to breakfasts (packed with avocado) to award-winning establishments, Melbourne

The 25 HeartRome Dining Highlights of 2015

To say I had some unforgettable dining experiences in 2015 would be an understatement. I work in food tourism, I blog about food and travel and eat for a living. I was also given the honour this year of reviewing around 40+ Rome restaurants (in less than 40 days) for a world renowned travel guide (due to be published in May 2016 and more to be announced in due course).

Melbourne Dining: Cutler & Co

Yes I come back to Melbourne every year to see my family and friends and spend the holidays with them. And yes I also come home to eat! Melbourne is a melting pot of cuisine and is Australia’s dining capital. Chefs from around the world have even set up camp here of late – from Heston Blumenthal to the guys from Sweden’s, Noma. Just about every cuisine to fusion twists

Melbourne… it’s Goodbye Again

I’ve said it before. I’ll say it again. Nobody ever said living in two countries would be easy. It’s by no stretch, the worst thing that could happen to you either! As I prepare to fly out of the city I was born and bred in, I can’t help but feel sad. Like for many of us, family is important to me. I come from a close-knit Italian family and

Melbourne dining: Vue de Monde

I first dined at Vue de Monde in Melbourne about 7 years ago. A little younger and less travelled, it was my very first real fine dining experience and I remember it vividly. Not because it was at that time – at around $250 – the most expensive meal I’d ever had, but because the 12 course degustation was a feast for the senses, palate and imagination. I still remember

Arrivederci Roma for 2014

It’s hard leaving Rome. There I said it. It’s been over three years now and I still get a little sad when it’s time to leave.. Knowing full well that I’ll be back. I’m also dying to go home!! Yes, home to Melbourne. To my family. My nephews. My friends. I want to hug my mum and dad and all my family who (other than my beautiful sister) I haven’t

HeartRome takes on the world

If you asked me about 20 years ago what I wanted to be when I grew up , I would’ve confidently answered: “I want to be a journalist”. I was about 15 years old. I spent the next 20 years (not growing up, but) getting 2 degrees and building a career in Melbourne. I achieved quite a lot in a short time, working as a policy adviser for the Victorian

Haus Garten – Rome’s New Bagel Bar

Last week Haus Garten opened in Rome’s Prati / Delle Vittorie area claiming to be one of the first ‘bagel bars’ in the city. I love trying a new place so I checked it out tonight with a friend. Located pretty much on the lungotevere (along the river) the atmosphere is fun and relaxed with a garden style theme, as the name suggests. Shabby-chic is what I think this style

HeartRome In Melbourne

Quick apologies for the blogging hiatus! I’ve been busy becoming an aunty while back in my home city of Melbourne (it’s really busy becoming one and being one!) And not to mention working, enjoying an Australian summer at our family beach house on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, mini-break-ing in Queensland, catching up with family and friends for dinner, lunch, coffee, brunch, drinks, you name it! It’s been a whirlwind, frenetic, emotional
