Regional delights in the heart of Rome: Part 3

This is the third and final instalment of Buzz in Rome’s post about where to find the best of Italian regional cuisine in the eternal city. If you haven’t been to the south of Italy or Sardegna, you really don’t know what you’re missing out on! I’ve had some of the best meals of my life in Italy’s south.  Ricotta cannoli in Taormina, Sicily; the best sword fish with capers

Regional delights in the heart of Rome: Part 2

Thanks again to Buzz in Rome for our second instalment of regional cuisine in the eternal city.  This post is my favourite of the three as it covers central Italy, wherein lays Abruzzo – the region of my heritage and very close to my heart.  The mountainous area where my parents were born is of course renowned for its pork, lamb and salume (cold meats like prosciutto and salami).  And

Rome wasn’t built in a day!

Rome. The eternal city. Breathtakingly beautiful with the infuriating ability to make you love it one minute and hate it the next… and then love it all over again. As the famous old proverbs say: ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’, ‘When in Rome, do as Romans do’ or ‘All roads lead to Rome’. And another I came across recently, that rings true, “For someone who has never seen Rome,

And with the bid estimated to set Italy back approximately €12.5 billion, the decision is obviously being hailed by many economists

And being home for the summer there’s no need to miss out on some authentic Italian experiences. So, I’ve put together some of my picks for pizza – the most recognised Italian dish in the world. You have

Snow in the eternal city

As I sit outdoors in Melbourne at 1am and the temperature hovers around 20 degrees celsius (after peaking at almost 30 during the day), it’s hard to imagine that it is actually snowing in my other home town of Rome right now! Yes – snowing! And yes, this is strange! While this would not make news in any other northern hemisphere European capital, snow in Rome is about as rare

You know you’re NOT in Italy when…

You know you’re NOT in Italy when… You can get a baggage trolley for free at the airport. The toilets are clean and there’s toilet paper, just about everywhere. On that note, you don’t have to pay to go to the toilet anywhere. You have your shopping bags packed for you at the supermarket. You can order without paying at the register “la cassa” Everyone wants to have dinner at

Arrivederci Roma… For now

It’s hard to believe that I left Australia almost 6 months ago and have been living in Rome for just over 3 months. How time flies when you’re having fun! The past few months have been some of the proudest, most rewarding and happiest of my life. I’ve had so many new and exciting life experiences and created enough memories to last my lifetime. I’ve experienced the fulfilment as well
