Rome Rooftops – La Grande Bellezza: Hotel Eitch Borromini and More

Until recently, views from above from Piazza Navona could only be taken in from private residences or special palazzo viewings in the area. Then came the Eitch Borromini Hotel. It’s located on the street parallel to the western side of Piazza Navona. The restaurant on the 4th floor has breathtaking views but the food is (not bad, but) nothing to write home about (well at least that was the case

I’ll start off by saying this: Traveling through a city when you know someone who lives there or being guided with tips and advice by someone truly in the know really makes for the best holiday experience. Wouldn’t you agree? So I am now making my services and time available to you. I remember the time a good friend took me around

Why Rome is the most instagrammable city (monuments aside!)

Very often I am asked what my favourite thing about Rome is. ‘Easy’, you think: the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon. Well yes of course, these are beyond spectacular and I love them all (not equally, but close enough!). But my answer is always, ‘the colours of Rome.’ Those ochre gold and worn orange walls. The magical light at golden hour, the blazing sky sunsets, the hanging green ivy

Suburra 1930: Where cocktails and food meet

I do enjoy Monti neighbourhood and it’s certainly an area of the city I recommend to visitors. For many reasons really: 1) it’s right by the Colosseum, 2) it’s a cool locals’ hangout (especially in summer people spill out of bars and into piazzas) 3) it’s super pretty, and 4) it’s full of independent designer stores, bars and restaurants. I recently experienced Suburra 1930. This stylish restaurant and cocktail bar

I get so many comments and messages from friends and followers complimenting my photos of the eternal city. The ones I feel that capture her magic, essence and colour in the best possible way. The ones that remind me why

The Great Beauty: Piazza Navona

I remember the very first time I walked into Piazza Navona. It was more than 15 years ago and my younger, curious travel mind and heart could not cope! I had never seen such beauty. The size of the square, life and laughter bursting out of the bars and restaurants that surrounded it, the Bernini fountain and the people. When Paolo Sorrentino’s, La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty) came out

10 things I learnt in Rome’s Jewish Ghetto (with MasterCard’s Priceless program)

I recently took a tour through what used to be the old Jewish ghetto of Rome. Of course I’ve walked through this unique part of the city hundreds of time but walking through with a licensed guide and expert was a totally different experience. And not just any guide. My tour through the ghetto is one offered exclusively through the MasterCard Priceless Cities program. I’ve walked and I’ve toured this

The HeartRome 50 dining highlights of 2016

This was one of the hardest pieces I’ve had to put together all year. How does one wrap up a year of dining experiences when it seems that whether it’s been for work or pleasure, food has been the one constant!  From Michelin stars in Paris, Rome, Capri, San Sebastián, Modena, Bilbao and Verona to trattorias, pizzerias, cafes, street food carts, pubs and gelaterias, here are the 50 highlights of

Arrivederci Roma 2016

It’s that time of year again.  For weeks before my annual pilgrimage home to Melbourne for Christmas and summer holidays, I always put this post on numerous to-do lists. As though it’s a burden; another thing to do before I fly out. How will I find the time to write it and select photos? What if I run out of time?  And then somehow, it just comes together.  Because just
