About

Ok, so this is me! I’m an Italo-Australian who decided at about 16 years of age that I wanted to live in

It took me quite a while – almost 20 years to be precise – but in July 2011, I finally built the courage to pack up and leave Melbourne behind for a while and here I am!

I have an amazing family and fantastic friends.. in fact (despite the obstacles life throws at everyone) I’d lived quite of a charmed life until then! Always at the forefront of all things social in Melbourne, extremely well travelled, university educated and had some amazing career experiences and highlights.

Just a little something was missing!

Call it an Eat, Pray, Love slash hit your early 30s crisis! I don’t know! Call it whatever you like really… I just decided that it was going to be Rome or bust for me! Move now.. or sit in Melbourne and die wondering! It’s those moments in life, I guess, where there is some greater force pushing you to do something!

Not sure what the future or my time here will bring.. Who knows? Which is the beauty of it I guess! I just know that this is where I’m meant to be in the world right now. It’s what the universe has planned for my right now.

Rome has this unique ability to make you love it one minute, hate it the next and then fall hopelessly in love with it all over again! And while living here is fun it’s also hard.. exciting but challenging.. frustrating and exhilarating. But importantly for me – it has been life changing.

In my (biased) opinion Rome is the most beautiful city in the world and I’m proud to call it home – at least for now!

I am an adopted Roman, an Italian citizen and a resident… Nobody can kick me out!

This is my first blog and it’s a fun tool for me to keep family and friends updated on my travels and provide you all with a little entertainment and insight to what it’s like living la dolce vita!

Put quite simply, I absolutely Heart Rome and these are my life and times in the eternal city. I hope you enjoy!

Baci, Maria

  1. Having had the same type of voice in my head, and packing it all up and moving to the the place I love for some improbable reason, I have an idea what your emotional adventures are about. Having spent way too little time in Rome (because I was bewitched by a Venetian water sprite at an early age), I’ll be fascinated to follow your adventures in becoming a Roman!
