International leading restaurant guide DiningCity didn’t host a Restaurant Week in Rome in 2013.
But they’ve sure made up for it with the announcement this week of their latest dining initiative.
From 21 to 30 March they will host “Cene Stellate” or Dining with the Stars: Michelin Star Dinners across Italy including of course, Rome.
The dinners will be hosted by 1, 2 and 3 Michelin starred dining establishments and will consist of specially designed 5 course meals set at prices of €55, €70 and €80 respectively.
I have been fortunate enough to dine at 1, 2 and 3 star restaurants in Rome (a big thing for me, with Michelin guide non-existent in Australia) and I’m excited have the opportunity to expand my repertoire – especially at these prices! With so many lauded chefs in the city like Heinz Beck, Roy Caceres, Cristina Bowerman and Anthony Genovese to name a few, I’m beyond curious to see the lineup.
The purpose of the Week is to bring fine and awarded dining to a public that might not otherwise have access because of the associated high costs. And organisers maintain that especially during this time of economic crisis and instability, the initiative is timely for Italians who appreciate the art of fine culinary experiences but are understandably being cautious with spending.
Across Italy, 35 restaurants have already signed on to participate with the number growing.
The initiative has recently been held in other European capitals with much success, including in Holland where 70 restaurants participated, hosting almost 15,000 people in a week.
