La Dolce Vita: Spa & Wellbeing in Rome

I have been known to like a little pamper here and there and I do treat this vizio (habit) whenever possible here in Rome.

Recently however my favourite Thai massage centre in Trastevere closed. It was cheap, convenient and the massages were divine. So I’ve been left in search of a new place. (If anyone knows of a good Thai massage place, please leave a note in the comments!)

I’ve sampled a few other places in the city in the meantime and thought I’d list them for those of you who call Rome home or are just passing through and looking for some R&R.

Aqua Madre (Jewish Ghetto)
Located right by Largo Argentina in the Jewish Ghetto area, this place is a full service hammam complete with steam rooms, Turkish bath and options for massage and other treatments. You can purchase an exfoliating gloves and slippers on arrival or bring your own. €50 for full use of the spa facilities and massages and other treatments start from €60.

Open 11am-9pm daily except Monday
Some selected times for women only.

The De Russie Wellness Zone, Hotel de Russie (Centro, Piazza del Popolo)
Located within Rome’s premier 5 star hotel, the Hotel de Russie, this spa is obviously all class. Premium relaxation is the word from the second you walk in. A full service day spa, massages start from €95 and facial treatments from €120 (French brand, Caritas is their skincare range of choice).

Non hotel guests are always welcome and the added advantage is that if you’re visiting for a day of pampering, you can have lunch, a snack or even just a cocktail in their garden bar and restaurant Le Jardin de Russie (club sandwich is fantastic!), which is a special experience.

Open daily

Kami Spa (Centro, Barberini)
Put simply, Kami Spa is a pure haven of total relaxation and luxury treatment. The prices here are exorbitant but the setting, variety and quality of the treatments, very much worth the splurge every now and then. You can choose from relaxation to hot stone to Lomi Lomi (Hawaiian) to Balinese to traditional Thai. The options are endless. Massages range from 60 – 120 minutes and start from €100 but special promotions are held each month and advertised on their website.

Open daily
10am-10pm
Via degli Avignonesi 11/12

Taverna Della Bellezza (Trastevere)
This is my local for routine beauty treatments like a manicure, pedicure (they offer shellac or permanent polish) or waxing. Manicure and pedicures start from €25 and it’s a hair salon too.
Open Tuesday-Saturday
10am-7pm
Via Della Scala, 49
