Mazzo: Young Roman Chefs Inspire

I love the excitement of dining at a restaurant I’ve never been to. Well especially when that restaurant is Mazzo, The Fooders.

I’ve read much about it over the past few months and my lovely friends at Pepper Restaurant and one of my fave Rome food bloggers, Rachel Roddy have spoken so highly of the place that tonight, with a few friends, we made the trek out to Rome’s Centocelle neighbourhood.
It was worth the ride! 
   

 

Young roman chefs, Francesca Barrecca and partner Marco Bacanelli, started their cooking journey with a series of pop-up kitchen events and then came Mazzo in April 2013. 
It’s communal dining at its (tiniest) best, with one table for 10 on the floor. From Tuesday to Saturday there are two sittings at 8pm and 10pm, https://buyingneurontinpill.com therefore bookings are highly recommended. There are a couple of tables outside, weather permitting and lunch is served family-style on Sundays. 
Their style is modern roman with a quirky twist on flavour combinations, therefore the menu changes regularly to keep with seasonal produce.
Here’s what we ate:
Panzanella (tomato and bread salad) with warm goats cheese ricotta
 
Crumbed snails with dashi potato puree
 
Piedmontese beef tataki with parmigiano sauce, anchovy mayonnaise & alfalfa sprouts
 
NYC baked cheesecake with maple syrup
 
The service was beyond attentive and seeing a few young passionate people commited to following a dream in this current economic climate is inspiring. 
I left wanting for more.
