Rome’s secret garden & new summer hotspot

I love summer in Rome. There is so much to do that it can even get slightly overwhelming! From outdoor cinema, live music in many parks, opera at the Baths of Caracalla, various festivals and events, the list goes on and on and on.

To kick off the season, last week in the Guido Reni district, an old industrial site by the MAXXI (Rome’s 21st century art museum) Hotel Butterfly literally took flight. But it’s not a hotel as the name suggests. Well it is, but it isn’t. Yes there’s a ‘hotel’, complete with a concierge desk on site, but it’s an art installation of sorts.

This dynamic cultural space boasts outdoor seating in a stunning lantern lit garden, cocktail bars, live music and dj sets, a tattoo parlour and hair salon. You can eat, drink, dance, explore.

Hotel Butterfly really is one of the most unique entertainment spaces Rome has seen in a while. Open nightly through to October, depending on the summer patronage, it may even be here to stay!
