Rome Michelin Star Dining Week

Fine dining doesn’t have to be stuffy or pretentious. And I love it when establishments bring you exactly that – dining in a fine, fine way.

You might not even guess (like me) that Enoteca la Torre boasts a Michelin star. I mean it has ‘enoteca’ in its name so you could be forgiven for thinking it’s a wine bar.

This one year old Rome restaurant is taking part in the Dining City Cene Stellate: a weeklong series of Michelin star dinners at bargain basement prices and is a true find.

Located within the boutique Villa Laetitia, an early 1900s guesthouse completely restored by Anna Fendi Venturini, of the famed Fendi family, it’s a truly special place. Think eclectic design pieces, art deco style with high ceilings, gigantic glass doors and garden tables with crochet coverings – it will blow you away. It’s like you’re on the set of The Great Gatsby. And in true Michelin style, you’re treated like a bit of a star as well.

Of and the food isn’t bad either! 🙂
Viterbo chef Danilo Ciavattino is young, creative and has an eye for detail. He’s friendly too.

For €55 (instead of upwards of €120) plus wine, here are some pics of the five course degustation (the intimate lighting is to blame for the photo quality but I wanted to share anyway!):

Course 1: Boiled potato with truffle and earthy crumble and greens

Course 2: Pork tempura with anchovy gelato

Course 3: Vermicello pasta with breadcrumbs, butter and anchovy

Course 4: Lamb cooked three ways (including the cutest little cutlet I’ve ever seen – from a baby lamb of 8-9kg)

Course 5: Bread and orzo style tiramisu

Other highlights were the amuse bouche of raviolo stuffed with olive oil, the palate cleanser of sweet tagliatelle served with vanilla gelato and mixed berries and the petit pastry selection to close the meal, featuring: a coconut and licorice fudge, chocolate truffle, candied orange and berry jelly.

While the entire meal was divine, I will not soon forget the feeling and attention. It was truly magical, understated and all class.

Unlike many restaurants of this calibre, Enoteca de la Torre doesn’t seem like it’s trying too hard to make you like it. The old school feel, impeccable yet relaxed and friendly service and stunning setting speak for themselves.

The restaurant will host a special Brunch this Sunday at a reduced rate of €35 and is open daily except for Mondays.

Here’s hoping to dining again here very soon.
