Tonight I attended a very special event in Rome: the 2012 Vogue Fashion Night Out.
(And with the roman, “Aooo bella’s” I received as I was on my way, I believe my look was up to scratch for the stylish occasion! :-))
Early in the evening the Spanish Steps turned into an open air catwalk with models showcasing the wares of internationally famous and up and coming fashion houses.
The streets of the Trident area (well namely the high end Via Condotti, Via del Babuino, Via Borgognona, Via Frattina and Via Margutta right through to Via del Corso) came alive in the name of style, class and fashion and it was a beautiful sight to see with a fantastic energy to match…
With street performers, make up demonstrations in shop fronts, giveaways, window display mannequins replaced by live models, DJs in shops and live music on the streets and complimentary champagne and Prosecco flowing in most stores – the night was a huge success.
The streets were just a sea of people – and not even tonights scattered rain could stop this crowd!
Mosts shops including even department stores in the area were open until 11:30pm with some even to 1:30am. And all for a great cause with proceeds of sales of limited event products going towards supporting the victims of the recent earthquakes in Emilia-Romagna.
This is the events second year in Rome. The biggest is hosted here but events also take place in Milan and Florence.
If you can plan your trip to Rome around this time, I certainly recommend you get in for next year’s edition..
I’m already looking forward to it…
Oh and a little side note… Tried GROM gelato for a post fashion night pick me up. It was to die for! This widely famous international chain opened in Rome last year and with mixed reviews I had to try for myself.
I went for dark chocolate and signature crema GROM – custard flavour with cookies. I’ll be back to try more flavours way before next year’s fashion event!
